He is a master of a self-defence technique called Daikon-ryu Kenjutsu, in which a freshly harvested, sacred radish from the field, held in the grandfather's hand, turns into a weapon or madness. When the glowing veins of the blue dragon flowing through his body light up and the eight gates open, The daikon turns into a katana, with a sword blade glowing in rainbow colours and the leaf on the handle held firmly in one hand. The radish glows with orange flames and lightning blue sparks and currents, and looks dangerous to behold. The aura of the grandfather's back springs forth, a bodhisattva's lotus flower and halo, and an ethereal radish phantom seems to emerge from the fabric. Grandfather is dressed in a simple, asagae-coloured traditional kimono. It creates a genial harmony with the earth of the radish fields, and the coloured fallen leaves and trees in the middle of autumn weave in contrast, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
