A color image of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk V preparing for a scramble during the Siege of Malta (1942). The Spitfire is stationed on a dusty airstrip surrounded by makeshift shelters. The Mediterranean sun is bright, casting long shadows on the aircraft and personnel. Pilots are running toward the planes, while ground crew rush to prepare the aircraft. In the background, you can see distant explosions from incoming enemy bombers.
