A candid night street photograph captured from eye level at medium distance, with mixed fluorescent store light and cool streetlamp light. Irene stands in the foreground on the right side of a convenience-store entrance, a 19-year-old Chinese female university student with a slim build, fair skin with a pink undertone, natural dark brown long straight hair, and small canine teeth visible as she speaks. She wears an oversized navy knit cardigan over a white camisole, loose beige trousers, and white canvas shoes, holding a hot canned drink with both hands near her chest; her right hand wraps the can, her left hand supports the bottom, and her body angles toward the person beside her. One step to her left, a 20-year-old Chinese male classmate in a black zip jacket, gray trousers, and a dark backpack stands facing her, holding a phone in his right hand and a plastic bag in his left hand. The convenience store has a glass front, bright shelves, an awning, wet sidewalk tiles, parked bicycles, and a distant row of closed shops. Fluorescent light from the store illuminates Irene’s face and hands, the streetlamp adds cool rim light, the two figures remain sharply focused, and the wet sidewalk and background storefronts recede into soft blur.
