vtxterrelagune, A close three-quarter portrait of an elderly woman with thoughtful eyes, silver curls and a red-clay coat, looking past the viewer toward the left. An ivory highlight crosses her lined cheek while a broad petrol-teal field gives the face room to breathe. The entire image, including the face, hair, clothing and background, is composed exclusively of meticulously deposited fine colored sand grains. Tiny irregular granules describe eyelids and wrinkles; mixed ivory, ochre and ink grains describe the curls. Use only warm ivory, ochre, red clay, petrol teal and dark ink, with intermediate tones formed by grain mixtures. Soft lateral light reveals a dry matte surface and minute grain-contact shadows. The sand layer stays nearly planar, with a delicate accumulation along one short coat seam.
